OUR HISTORY
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was created in 1939 by Congress as the Coast Guard Reserve. It helped the Coast Guard perform many small craft rescues, as well as provide boating safety knowledge to a growing number of recreational boaters. In February 1941, it became the Coast Guard Auxiliary with many members becoming part of the Temporary Reserve during World War II. Over 50,000 Auxiliarists served during the war. The Auxiliary has continued to assist the Coast Guard, and serve the public with its efforts to improve boating safety for over 60 years.
